GIANT TOAD AKA "BUFO TOAD" DANGER
COYOTES IN FLORIDA
PETS
The Association wishes to remind all pet owners that they have an obligation to ensure that they maintain control of their dogs at all times and are not permitted outside of their residences unleashed. Mallory Creek HOA Declaration states in part: No owner shall be permitted to maintain in his or her Unit a bull terrier (pit bull or pit bull mix) or any dog or dogs of mean or of violent temperament or otherwise evidencing such temperament. The Association will continue to enforce the community restrictions, including leash requirements, which is also a local law. The Association will deem a pet a nuisance to the community and require its removal if a pet owner does not comply with the community pet restrictions and local leash law.
Please do not hesitate to immediately call 911 in the event of an emergency.
- This non-native species secretes a highly toxic milky substance from glands behind its head when threatened/handled. Secretion can burn your eyes, irritate your skin, and kill cats and dogs if ingested.
- Symptoms of pet poisoning: drooling, head-shaking, crying, loss of coordination, and convulsions. Pet’s gums often turn red, owners should be familiar with their normal gum color.
- Treatment: get a hose and run water in the side of the pet’s mouth, pointing the pet's head downward so water isn't swallowed. Rub the gums and mouth to remove the toxin. Call your veterinarian immediately.
- •At night, cane toads gather to feed on insects that are attracted by an outdoor light. Please turn off your porch light overnight and do not leave any food or water outside.
COYOTES IN FLORIDA
- Coyotes live in urban, suburban, and rural areas throughout Florida.
- Coyotes help maintain healthy ecosystems by managing populations of rodents, insects, and other small animals.
- If you see a coyote, do not run but haze them to scare them off by:
- Making loud noises, waving arms in the air, yelling, and acting aggressively
- Use a noisemaker: air horns, banging pots and pans, or shaking coins in a container
- Throw small stones or sticks towards (not at) a coyote
- By preventing conflicts, we can better coexist with coyotes. Avoid conflicts by:
- Not feeding coyotes. It is illegal to feed them because they will lose their fear of humans.
- Secure garbage cans. Clean up pet food and fallen fruit.
- Secure livestock in predator-resistant enclosures.
- Keep pets in enclose areas. Walk dogs on a short leash.
