Rebaiting occurs every other month. Residents may wish to consider having bait stations on your own real estate property as well.
The rodent bait in use is Final Blox (red in color) and Poison Control’s number is 1-800-222-1222. All pets need to be leashed in all common areas and kept away from the boxes at all times. Also, children and adults are advised to stay away from the bait boxes at all times.
Just recently, we experienced vandalism of the traps with used dog waste bags blocking access to the bait. It should be noted that rats are attracted to dog excrement and will eat it before entering the trap. We pay for the baiting service and hope that that the perpetrator(s) will cease to meddle with these traps as we try to mitigate the rat problem. We now also have to pay someone to remove these used dog bags.
Please consider these items to help the community:
- Consider installing bait stations on your personal property
- Place garbage bags in garbage containers with tight-fitting lids
- Put garbage containers curbside the morning of trash pickup days rather than overnight
- Remove any water source and any items that could be a potential water source when it rains
- Do not leave pet food outside. Store pet food in sturdy containers with fitted lids on an elevated surface.
- Seal any openings to your home. Rats can enter an opening as small as 3/8” wide.
- Trim back vegetation touching the house (leaves/palms/branches)
- Keep garage doors closed with automobiles inside
- Put mesh covers on drainpipes
- Mesh off roof vents
- Clean grills after each use
- Remove bird feeders
- Remove fruit trees
