Giant Toad aka “Bufo Toad” Danger

  • This non-native species secretes a highly toxic milky substance from glands behind its head when threatened/handled. Secretion can burn your eyes, irritate your skin, and kill cats and dogs if ingested.
  • Symptoms of pet poisoning: drooling, head-shaking, crying, loss of coordination, and convulsions. Pet’s gums often turn red, owners should be familiar with their normal gum color.
  • Treatment: get a hose and run water in the side of the pet’s mouth, pointing the pet’s head downward so water isn’t swallowed. Rub the gums and mouth to remove the toxin. Call your veterinarian immediately.
